For Parents

If you choose to join the world Scouting movement, your child will start on a journey of adventure, challenge and excitement. Through the coming years, Scouting will offer your child many opportunities to learn by doing and to develop and use the skills of leadership, initiative, self-reliance and independence. We seek to encourage a sense of responsibility and an understanding of what it means to commit to a code of living expressed in the Scout Law and Promise.

Joining Scouts, Cubs or Venturers (boys and girls)

New cubs and scouts generally are asked to attend for four to six weeks before they are invested. We ask that the new chums do this so that they can see what it is like before they make a firm commitment to joining. However, for insurance purposes, an application for membership must be completed as soon as possible. For investiture a scouting uniform will have to be purchased and scouting fees paid.

Helping Out

Ours is a voluntary organisation and we do rely heavily on parent support. If you are not prepared to give this support, you should reconsider you decision to have your child join.

It is expected that every family that joins the Scout group will contribute in some way to its smooth and continued operation.

The support given will depend on the individual circumstances of each family. The group needs to produce scout leaders and assistants, parent committee members and lots of helpers for fundraisers and working bees. (We are particularly keen to get additional leaders for both the scout and cub groups, so if this interests you, please talk to the group leader).

Cubs Information

  ·        We require parents to sign the attendance book each night when dropping off and picking up the Cubs.

·        We require parents to assist the Cub Pack by supplying supper once per term and we also ask parents to participate in Pack activities and the parents committee.

·        Our program follows the school terms and we publish term programs and newsletters.

·        New Cubs (New Chums) aged between  7 to 10½ wear a white scarf for 6 weeks and generally on the seventh week they will need their uniform (sold at Snowgum) so they can be invested and presented with their badges, group scarf and woggle.
